As for the harness:
I have had good experiences with a woven nylon harness originally intended for a baritone sax.
None of my tubas/euph have carrying rings. One day a brass repairman friend wondered about an 8-shaped cheesecloth loop around the main tuning slide receiver and its stay on my YEP-641.
When he learned, that it was, where I attached the hook of my harness, he exclaimed: Had I thought of that solution I hadn't burned all that lacquer, when mounting carriage rings.
Disclaimers:
you have to know a bit about the dynamic attributes of knots. I use what we call a "kirurgisk knob", which might translate into a surgical knot. Which never slides open.
of course you only should mount such loops at strong points of the infrastructure of your instrument.
