This is from an email I received from Tommy Johnson and thought I'd forward it on to the BBS:

Hi Everybody,
Gene Pokorny will be performing with the Downey Symphony, John Stevens IWest Coast Premiere) "Journey" --- Concerto for Contrabass Tuba & Orchestra

Saturday, March 22, 2003 at 8:00pm
Downey Theatre, 8424 Firestone Blvd., Downey, CA 90241

For tickets please contact the Downey Symphonic Society, Inc. at (562) 403-2944

There is a pre-concert talk from 7:15PM - 7:45PM where Gene and the conductor, Dr. Thomas Osborn will discuss the program. Gene was born and raised in Downey and this is a marvelous opportunity for Gene to come and play again in his hometown orchestra. He first played in the Downey Symphony around 1969.

Gene will be teaching a masterclass/clinic for tuba players on March 18th, from 7 - 9 PM at CSULB at Daniel Recital Hall. This is a free event.

Hope all of you can attend these concerts.

Sincerely,

Tommy Johnson
