I just read the book "My Younger Years" by Arthur Rubenstein. He states that he hated his piano lessons so much that he begged to quit. He loved to learn and he loved to play piano, but his teacher was so bust preparing him to make music that he never actually got to make music. In the eyes of many, his teacher was recognized as being the best.

I agree that it is important to fuel the desire of a talented student... but, as the good Mr. Denney said, the choice has to be the students... not the mommy's or the well meaning slave driver/ music teacher's.
