How much daily (?) to exercise?

Would be interesting to find out, how many hours of exercising per day you guys find to be at the maximum of efficiency. We have learnt from the sports training, that all muscles need a certain recreation time after the training stress to increase strength, and in our case, the chops perform a lot of muscle work as well. So, maybe the rules are not: As much as possible = as good as possible ??? Perhaps, we get much better results from "intervall" training: one day of some hours of execising to be followed by one without any, etc. etc ??? I think, this is also a question to ask a physiotherapist (besides the experienced musician), right?
