Microphone response question

I'm looking at getting a new mic for recording my tubas. Can I use a microphone whose lowest response is 100 hz if the music requires notes below that frequency. For example, the pedal D in "young person's guide" should be 36.7 hz or there about. Will a mic pick this up and still provide a quality tuba sound? Or will it just provide the overtones from that note, and having it sound like an elephant farting up stream, pardon the phrase. The "Microphone Madness" brand has stereo mic that go 20-20K for less than 100, anyone try these out lately or heard of them.
