I like the 5j too, and if you can get them for $3K, that is a good deal. I think the weril is too small for a symphonic band stting, but great for beginners, and good for many other uses too.
Please check out the VMI/schmidt 2301. It is a miraphone style tuba with a great sound and intonation, and is below $3000. the downside sompared to the 5J is it less durable horn.
