My profressor and I cut the second valve tubing on an old King recording bass many years ago when I was in college. I found it did not help the intonation because I couldn't cut off enough before running out of tubing for the slide to fit into properly. In addition, you would be have to be careful not to cut off too much or the slide may run in to the valve. You might try cutting off some of the tuning slide, too. It's all pretty risky. Good luck. Best advice, trade the horn for something better.
