Tunes to perform: two kinds - those they already know, and those that you can tell a story about. Both kinds need to be *short*.

Things to stimulate their interest: a tour of the quartet (explaining by example the capabilities of the instruments). Happy Birthday (any young audience will have a couple of kids whose birthday falls in this MONTH - that's close enough for gov't work. SHORT examples of different musical forms - including esp. a round or canon. Anything with a "story" that you can prime in an introduction and is easy for them to follow. Audience participation numbers (clap alongs, sing alongs, etc.)

How to get them to interact: always difficult. Sing-alongs (even better are "stomp-alongs" - anything physical).

Keep their interest: nothing L O N G. Have a running joke that you can fall back on if something drags or bombs. END with the final chapter of this running joke (and then get off and stay off).
