I did an extensive review of the Yamaha Silent Brass a couple of years ago, posted on this BBS. If you're interested, search the archives for it.
I recently purchased a TrumCor practice mute and it is really nice. It is still somewhat stuffy, especially in the low range, but it is workable and I haven't found much in the way of pitch problems. TrumCor makes practice mutes in various sizes so you're guaranteed to get one that fits your horn. Mine is a large one and I use it with my Nirschl 6/4. It also sits in the bell, like any standard mute I know of, and does not rest on the outside of the bell like the Silent Brass does. For me, this is a big plus because I was always concerned that the Silent Brass would either fall over or damage my bell while in use.
I picked up my used TrumCor mute on eBay so you might keep an eye out if you're interested. Good luck!
My opinion for what it's worth...
