I'm sure that Blomstedt Bruckner 8 was amazing...and I don't think that the original poster meant to slap any US orchestras, but rather to give a great compliment to one of the world's best orchestras. Maybe it just came out wrong. I was also at the concert, and it was the best concert I have ever been to as well.
I'm not sure that I am willing to conceed the idea that orchestras are amazing at certain pieces. I think that is kind of silly. They are musicians, and I don't think the notes they play in Bruckner 8 are going to be better than what they play in some other piece. The blend and sound that these people (4 women now) displayed was amazing, and that has nothing to do with who wrote the notes. I would be pleased to hear that sound and that togetherness representing any composer. I'm young, so maybe I am wrong...just what I think.
