Today, I had a conversation that might be relevant. I was chatting with another "band parent" that I knew only very slightly. I had noticed him sitting in on several instruments, including oboe, with the high school band (covering parts for missing students). I tried to recruit him for our local community band.
He regretted that he didn't have the time. While he had been an oboe performance major in college, his life was rather busy at the moment...he's an Obstetrician.
Playing a musical instrument, and playing it well, is a good thing.
It's worth studying, even majoring in.
It's not the *only* thing.
Doing something else with your life does not make you a failure.
