Last time, I promise!
Greetings again from Atlanta, GA. Second Annual Tuba-Euphonium Conference sponsored by the The US Army Ground Forces Band and the State University of West Georgia in Carrollton is only four days away! We hope you have made plans to attend. This year’s conference will take place March 22-23, 2002 at the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of the University of West Georgia. The featured artists this year are Dr. Brian Bowman, euphonium, Velvet Brown, tuba, Adam Frey, euphonium, Dr. Todd Fiegel and his Celluloid Tubas, Dr. Dennis Askew, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Winston Morris and the Tennessee Tech Tuba Ensemble, and the Atlanta Tuba Patrol. Both days will be filled with concerts, clinics, and master classes specifically targeted at tuba-euphonium sections and their band directors working together to improve tone, timbre, and ensemble playing. There is even a reading session that is open to all tuba and euphonium/baritone players, so bring your horn! Band directors, here is where your second benefit comes in. Dr. Scott McBride, West Georgia’s Music Department Chair, was able to acquire one SDU credit through the Continuing Education Department at West Georgia College. Full conference attendance is required to attain credit. Contact Dora Hayes by email or phone at (770) 836-6612 for more details. The best part of the conference is that it is FREE!! That’s right, no admission for anything. The Army Ground Forces Band’s website has up-to-date information about the conference including schedule of events and links to the college for maps and other details. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by email or phone at (404) 464-4497. We hope to see you there.
