They sure help you play a high note once. After that, you'll be able to sing first tenor or better in the chuch choir.
I never used one, but I like the idea. Some people would probably find them awkward at first, but I'm sure it is something that most people could get used to. I prefer to just hold up my horn... but I'm strange.
Also, I don't think it would be a bad investment. If you absolutely hated it, you could sell it here for probably $10 less than what you paid.
As for where to get one, I've never checked... sorry.
