To add to the list of concert annoyances: How about the occasional ego maniacs who just HAVE to be the first to clap (loudly) at the end of the piece to show that they know the music. And it's usually at the end of some deeply profound work. These jerks shatter the mood and allow for not even a second or two of thoughtful silence. I have a video tape of the 1995 opening concert of the NY Phil wherein Brunnhilde's Immolation music comes to a lovely close, only to be instantly shattered by some idiot's thunderous clapping. Kurt Masur was obviously mesmerized by this music's close, and his startled expression and look of disgust upon hearing the rude clap is a thing to behold.
