I know this topic has surfaced before, but a recount may be approptiate:
what is your prefered 5th valve configuration (whole tone, flat half step, etc) and why?
My two 5 valve horns (Yamaha YCB-661 and PT-6) have convertable 5ths: flat semitone/flat tone and flat tone/tone and a half respectively.
I'm leaning towards the flat tone, only because that way I have standardised fingering between the two horns, but some notes don't slot as well. For example, low F on the PT-6 is either flat or sharp: I can find more in tune valve combos with the longer 5th.
