I have this discussion with my brother all the time. He is a composer who writes contemporary classical music, and is chairman of the music department at Brandeis University. I like some of his music, but much of it is really inaccessable. His perspective seems to be that if music is understood and enjoyed by the general public then it is too simplistic. If something is commercially successful it must be bad. There is tons of great music that is commercially popular. In a free market economy an organization needs to be commercially viable to continue to exist. You can still program new music or "different" music, but not everything needs to be esoteric. Congratulations on taking these steps and good luck with your continued financial success.
