Well, I'm not sure about lemon juice (although it is a mild acid), but I've used 5% white vinegar in about the same way with (apparently) good results. However, I would not use 3-in-1 oil. I've heard too many fine machinists bad mouth it for leaving a gummy residue. I would use Singer Sewing Machine oil, if not just go ahead and get a good brand of rotor oil.

Also, I have a friend who does something like this with Listerine mouthwash, every couple of months.

One more thing -- dump a generous amount of valve oil down the leadpipe and work it back and forth through the valves by tilting the horn back and forth and working the valves.
