With out inflaming a CC vs BBb war, there is nothing wrong with playing a BBb tuba in the orchestra.
I'm assuming that you'll have to sell your BBb to buy a C tuba. Sell your BBb and buy a better BBb tuba. That's my suggestion for you.
There are many excellent quality BBbs out there as C tubas. Lots of Americans are going ape over the new King 2341. Also Meinl Weston 25's have a great reputation. If money isn't too much of a concern try a 4/4 Rudy Meinl or Willson FA5. If you can find one, an original York. A number of list users have original York BBbs. Of course look for used tubas of the names i've already mentioned!
Yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks, but stick to what you know best and enjoy it even more!
