It hasn't occurred to me to mess around with it on the tuba. When I've witnessed others (including some world-renowned players) doing this while playing the tuba, the required mouth storage for tuba playing distorts the embouchure and the frantic snorting required is comical.

Quite a few years ago, when I attended an Empire Brass recital, several of the players were doing it - totally unnecessarily - on a piece where normal breaths would have been easy. I wondered (and still do) if they were doing it as some sort of private joke, as the effect was totally comical (though no one lauqhed) and a complete distraction.
