It's different for everybody. I could say to keep working at it, and eventually it'll be fine; or, take some time off, and your mind will clear; or, start learning guitar or marimba or drumset to free your mind; or, put down the horn altogether and never play music again.

Personally, I always got tired of scales and didn't pay them much mind. Then, I really got into drilling them hard, playing as many as I could muster as often as possible. That's when they started to make sense -- not simply as a practice tool or fundamental skill, but more as musical entities of their own. Just like any other piece of music, I began to feel like playing a scale was a very simple, yet broad, form of artistic storytelling.

No kidding, either. Somehow, I started to "get it".
