This bad problem also exists on some 4/4 Hirsbrunners. Before I sold my Hirsbrunner (and this was ONE of the reasons I sold it) I had a cosmetically imperceptable job done of trimming the #3 slide so that it could be pushed in "just" short enough to accomodate the Eb (obviously, though, to the detriment of the Ab's).

Doing this, I was guessing at the tastes of whoever the buyer would be, as I followed the saying of the one of the very best trumpet players I know (who, btw, NEVER sounds sharp):

"Better sharp than out of tune."
