Maybe try a different major and transfer to a school with a not necessarily prestigious music department. My son is going to minor in music. He enjoys playing, but is not interested in being a professional musician. He figures he can make a living doing something else and play his tuba because he enjoys it. There are lots of small orchestras and other non-professional groups that are going begging for decent tuba players. Some schools will even give scholarships to music minors if the individual is good enough and they have a need for that particular instrument.
I realize you weren't asking for advice and I apologize for giving it, I guess I just hate to see someone give up on music, and after all, once a mom, always a mom. Best of luck.
