I have found Miraphone CC 186's to have gotten much better over the years.

However, I think the Miraphone BBbs have remained about the same as they've always been (good), with or without the larger bell flair.

I have occassionally come across some REMARKABLE old BBb 186's that had a very, very round sound (not oft' associated with this shape and style of tuba).

I have always though that Melton/Meinl Weston 20/25 tubas played stiffer than Miraphones.

Again, referring to tubas of old ("ancient" '60's vintage) there were some REALLY "sweet" Meinl-Westons...They weren't model 20/25, but rather just a bit smaller (still 4/4). Rich Matteson used to sell them (the "sweet" slightly smaller ones) out of the back of his station wagon before he got the North Texas job.
