I played one of the Mirafones quite a lot in my undergrad years at TN Tech. That is all Winston Morris would use in his Ensemble. The sound on the horns are all pretty consistent which is how he got the overall ensemble sound he did. Eight Willsons sound like eight Willsons; eight ovals sounds like one big horn. We had tremendous difficulty playing in tune with ourselves. We had to use first valve slide adjustments extensively and lots of alternate fingerings. They are great in a group setting with other ovals, but as a solo horn or in a mixed group, I would be very careful.
