I never played the Reynolds sousaphone but I played a Reynolds Contempora tuba in high school and it was really a great instrument. The valves were exactly as you describe: "lightning fast" and the sound and pitch were excellent. The tuba was quite close to the Olds, (we had one of them, too) but I think the Reynolds was better. It also had one of the few stock mouthpieces that was not only usable, but good! It's a pity that there are no more quality, low cost, American made horns like these being made now...but that's a subject for another thread.
