Guys, I don't know how to tell you this, but Bob Rusk didn't add the fifth valve on this one--it was done locally in Eugene by a local brass tech. FWIW, I really like this 5th valve-the difference in openness between it and the 1st valve in 4th valve combinations is quite noticeable.

I think the 5th valve is much easier to add in the leadpipe on most tubas, but a big-bore valve after the main cluster might well be worth the extra effort.

But the 5th valve on production tubas is often put before the main 4 on rotary instruments. So who knows?
