I answer your question with a question... Why do piano and string players continue to perform Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, etc. over and over again? I think it's because those composers and those pieces are the cornerstones of their respective repertoires. Now, I'm not saying that Arban, Kraft, Barat, VW, etc. are necessarily on the same level of the above mentioned greats, but I truely believe that these are some of the cornerstones of our currently limited repertoire. There will ALWAYS be room for more great transcriptions and new compositions. I think we're all anxiously awaiting for them to arrive (or to be finished in some of our cases), but I think that we should, and will, keep playing these standards, because they're some of the best things available to us at the moment... More comments, ideas, and motivation needed from all of you!
