The first piston Hirsbrunner wasn't made until 1984. I have a picture of Jake playing the first one at the Brass Conference at Indiana in June '84. It was only a four valve, I was trying it out, Jake came into the room, asked if he could try it, I of course handed him the tuba and took my picture. By the way, Mitch was my student here at Illinois for one year and the tuba is a good one. We visited about two years ago and he told me he was going into conducting.
