I don't know how many tuba students there are in HK, or if there are any. However, should anyone be surprised when some very talented brass players appear on the scene from the far east? Yo-Yo Ma is only the most famous of the host of east-asian string players making a better living playing music than I or most of us on this board do. It only makes sense that the reason that there are so few well-known asian brass players at this point is that they don't have 300 or so years of brass tradition behind them.

Considering the occurance of young prodigies from that part of the world, I think it's only a matter of time before a large, ICSOM orchestra has a tuba player from that region.

Sleep well tonight.
