In looking at the salary for a tuba (or any other instrumental) position, especially one abroad, one has to consider whether the salary offered will enable one to live reasonably well in the place the job is located.

For example, I have a good friend who took a job a a brass principal/solo player (to mention the intrument would make the player's name obvious) in a major Norwegian orchestra for a salary that looked attractive. Unfortunately, my friend found that given the cost of living and the lack of opportunities for outside income -- teaching was unavailable because the local university/conservatory had a monopoly on that and the orchestra schedule made any other touring groups impossible -- one was living at a poverty level. Despite rave reviews and the orchestra literally begging my friend to stay, one year was enough.

So, it's not so simple.
