I always assumed the bows were the "U" shaped tubing pieces on the top and bottom "ends" and the branches were the straight pieces that connected the bows together!

Hence, from bell backwards, you'd have: Bell&throat, bottom bow, 1st branch (biggest, straight tubing opposite the bell -- the one that always gets dinged!), top bow, 2nd branch(running alongside the bell, seldom in harm's way and seldom dinged), etc.

Is there a standard set of terminology here?
