and just to set the record straight: I respect the hell out of Fred Fennell. What he did for the wind ensemble is marvelous and just for that he deserves the highest amount of deference. But the difference, for me, is one between putting the product out there, and virtuosity. Dr. Fennell made the wind ensemble an entity in america, but people like donald hunsberger made it great. That's my opinion, don't hate me for it (i love band music) ps. there are plenty of other band conductors besides hunsberger who made it great, especially at major universities and other music schools (eg. Paynter, McMurray...I just don't know them all by name)
