Yeah!! And DaVinci used way too much black on the Mona Lisa. Great art should be colorful, and an artist should show his full ability to use blue, red, purple, orange, and ....

You acknowledge your youth, and for such a young person your impressions are entirely forgivable; at least you're thinking, something that can't be said for many people your age in any era. Always look at Jazz with a mind that is open enough to be slightly uncomfortable. Don't tell anybody, but I don't much CARE for tuba in mainstream jazz, but like it very much as the base voice in dixie and jazz rags. In fact that's my favorite playing to do, period! But 'not my cup of tea' is probably the strongest criticism that should ever be leveled at jazz, because to tell someone their jazz is BAD is like saying their favorite color is bad. Jazz is all about expressing yourself, not about expressing other people's expectations. 'Course, if you want to make any MONEY at it, you might want to do both....

Best of all things to you. Live, learn, and grow old and happy (like me!).
