Since the only F tuba solos on the CDs are Howards, I guess you're addressing his tone production. I can't agree with your opinion.

There's exactly ONE euphonium solo on the two CDs. There are however numerous Eb tuba solos.

What; that we 'belong' down low?

Your points aren't terribly clear. Regarding your complaints about tone quality, we all use pretty small mouthpieces in the group. That's because Howard's voicings go WAY up high. Mic placement plays a part too: close-miking is pretty standard in modern commercial music-- helps establish separation in the mix, and better control for sound reinforcement. Is it a different sound than an orchestral tubaist? Yes. It's meant to be.
