I'm of the school of thought that says that piston valves should be cleaned and oiled frequently. So I buy plain old Roche-Thomas valve oil ($6.50 for a 16 ounce bottle). It's cheap, doesn't smell (to me anyway) and is faster than I am.
I think that this is similar to "what kind of oil do you use in your car" discussions. There are those who use high-priced synthetics and change the oil every 25,000 miles and those who buy cheap straight 30 weight and change it every 3,000 miles. Both schools have some merit.
