There is nothing like having a brand spanking new tuba, except having a good used tuba at a much lower price. Check around for models in which you are interested, and then put out some feelers. There are plenty of brands and models that usually hold up very well over the years. Dave Fedderly usually has at least a couple great playing used horns, and Dillon usually does, as well. There's no point in paying for the german styrofoam, in my view. And there will be scratches on any new horn soon enough.
