Well, I'm not sure if it's you getting too involved. I suffer, and mean suffer in the nicest of terms from the samething, too many ensembles and getting bored. I think at least for me that it's a lack of difficult music. I find myself for hours to even days at a time where I just don't have the ambition to play because I'm that bored. As to the lips swelling, just tonight I was playing in my Big Band (bass trombone) and practically out of nowhere my lips swelled. I could hardly play by the end. I find giving myself a good nights sleep helps to overcome the swollen lips. A wise man once said to me that not to kill yourself in high school, if you are good which it sounds like you are, you will not need to worry about college. It will take care of itself. So, slow down and relax for a while. It doesn't hurt to stop playing for a few days. Or even to turn down a gig every now and then. Just a few words of wisdom.
