These are all excellent points. When I opt to use an F tuba instead of a CC tuba, for instance, in a quintet setting, I personally don't want it to sound like a CC tuba. Otherwise, I would just play a CC tuba.

When I think about F tubas that respond like CC tubas, my mind wanders to the Kurath F tuba...that gigantic thing! It blows so much like a CC tuba, sounds like a CC tuba and the upper and lower registers feel like a CC tuba. So why bother?

Everyone will have a different concept of what different pitched horns should sound like and feel like. Personally, I like to make a pretty defined distinction between F and CC.

Just my thoughts.
