I frequently play on CC, F and Eb tubas. The fingering changes between horns is not that challenging, you just have to get used to them. At the time, my Conservatorium Brass Ensemble is playing the Elgar Howarth arrangements (a FANTASTIC piece) and the part I'm playing lends itself to using both CC and F tubas. For the sections that need plently of grunt (Baba Yaga!) I'll use my CC. However for movements like the Old Castle and Limoges Marekets (where I play what the bassoon plays in the Ravel orchestration), an F tuba sounds great. That doesn't mean to say that it's impossible to play the part without multiple horns. The piece was written for the Phillip Jones Brass Ensemble and John Fletcher used to play the entire part on an Eb tuba.
