One thing you could do is get two recording and compare the two sounds. Everyone, generally has there own opinions of what bright and dark mean (take that with a grain of salt) Many people consider Roger Bobo to have a very bright sound and again, many people consider Arnold Jacobs, or Warren Deck to have dark sounds....why don't you get recordings of these players and compare there sounds and see which one you fit closer to.
