The 'bore' is the diameter of the tubing attached to the valves. It is usually, but not always consistent across the horn. On some 5-valve horns, the 5th valve bore is larger. It is also a bit misleading. Measuring bore, the Cerveny Piggy is one of the larger CC tubas on the market at .835. However, it is consistently classified as a 4/4; I guess because of the throat and bell size. In the end, trying a horn is the only way to form any real judgement on its characteristics.
