Damage to a tuba usually comes from impact...the case coming to a sudden stop, with the tuba continuing to move inside and hitting the inside of the case..like your head hitting the windshield in an auto accident. Strap/wedge the tuba in tightly, and it won't be damaged by any drop or handling that doesn't damage the case first. I can't imagine inflight vibrations causing damage.
