Here are my revised findings;
The St. Petersburg tubas of recent manufacture, that have been re-worked in Germany, are better than the earlier models. But I still believe that there are better alternatives for the money, either good used instruments, or new tubas by Weril or Josef Lidl.
The Weril tubas are a knock-off of Yamaha tubas, but have a unique valve guide system. The Lidl is a 3/4 tuba with a bell flare reminescent of an old 3/4 Conn, but with rotary valves. The Lidl valves I have seen have been of quite high quality construction.
