How about lip mass as it pertains to high range? Trying to hit anything higher than A three ledger lines above the bass staff has always eluded me. It's not that, say, Bb or C has a bad forced sound; it's simply a physical impossibility, try as I might putting all sorts of air through my lips, slurring up by half-steps, etc. (I play 1st tuba in a tuba ensemble and Eb bass in a brass band, so it's not for a lack of routine high register playing) G just below is just fine--nice and open. But Bb is a brick wall, regardless of the tuba being used. FWIW, hitting higher notes on a euphonium is no problem, but using a tuba mouthpiece seems to be a dead end for me.
