Hey Steve,
How are you? We met at the Boston Brass concert a while back. I had found that my upper register is pretty much the same on any tuba I play no matter the key. Some are easier than others but the notes I can reach are still the same. I chose Eb because I did not want to have to constantly work on the low register to get certain notes that are commonly weak on some F tubas.
When I tried my 3400 I fell in love with it and it is pretty much the only horn I play. My 3050 is a really nice instrument too but it is my second horn now. I am doing mostly brass band stuff now and the Eb works well for that probably better than an F would for me.
Hope this helps,
Jim
