Yes, that's what I said. But the difference between loud and soft is still greater, and I don't think that difference is much affected by mike placement.

Listen to the first-movement cadenza. In the final phrases of the solo, Fletcher is so soft as to be nearly inaudible--yet the loud bits are still loud. If you turn the volume down on the Lind to line up the loud bits, the soft parts on the Lind won't be as soft.

And I've always though that room effects would darken the sound somewhat by smearing the upper frequencies, but Fletcher's tone color still seems brighter than Lind's. Lind's sound is more beautiful, but Fletcher's seems to me to have more color.
