The PT-50 is the biggest funnel-shaped mouthpiece in the PT lineup, and that lineup includes some really big mouthpieces. It ain't supposed to be easy to play high on a huge mouthpiece. People buy them to make them sound bigger when they play low. To play high on that sort of a mouthpiece, it seems to me you have to create your own smaller rim with your chops, as Jacobs describes when he said he used a cornet embouchure to play in the extreme upper register. I suppose it can be done, but I don't imagine that one learns that in a day.

A smaller mouthpiece makes it easier.

As someone else suggested, you might try a PT-48. If anything, it's a bit wider feeling than the 50, but it has a smaller volume and a bit of rounding at the bottom, and the response on it seems to me pretty easy. It also gives a big horn some crispness to the sound which I like. I think it's about the biggest mouthpiece I can handle on the big horn, even for the stuff that I attempt, though I play a bigger Doug Elliott on my smaller York Master.
