Wasn't the job to be a soldier (or sailor or airman)? Your assignment might have been different but you and your horn aren't much different than a grunt and his weapon. Your rich Uncle Sam pays you to do a job and you do it.
Find me an infantryman who really likes slogging through the jungle or baking in the desert. He may have enlisted with the same high ideals and misconceprtions that you had. It's still his job that he does. And guess what, he thinks his superiors and idiots too.
