I have heard of "extra duty pay" or stipends for doing concerts in cases where a district was trying to attract or keep a band director but the base pay wasn't enough. However, generally, these stipends are for something specific. I got a very large stipend to commit to having a band at all the basketball games, football games, and a few other events. With these stipends, it is not uncommon for the band director to be the highest paid teacher in a school. In general, the stipends are awarded for activities done beyond the "normal" teaching day.
