Just say no - the sulfamic acid in CLR will clean calcification off of raw brass, but it does unpleasant discoloring to silver, and will result in your doing more silver polishing than you ever wanted to do to try and remove the spots.
By the way, the car wash idea works well, but take a rubber mat or something to set the instrument on, bring a friend to help hold the instrument if possible, and plan on getting quite wet. I cleaned my personal instruments that way for years before I had a shop, and never damaged anything. That sort of pressure washing is particularly effective on silver.
